INDEPENDENCE POST – WAYS TO BE CREATIVE AS A POET

Happy Independence Day 🤩

How about scribbling some lines on independence or freedom.

As a lover of poetry, you may want to try out creative ways of writing your poems.

Here are ways you can be creative with poems.

Your poems can take different shapes and forms, even in your choosen niche.

There’s no hard and fast rule as to what a poem should be. But let your poetic language be carved out, creatively.

Here’s why;

Good Poets write rich lyrical lines.

If you want to get lost in creativity, get an overdose of different genres of music especially, those with rich lyrical lines. You can tell the quality of the song from its lyrics.

The lyrics relays the characters in the song, every other thing like beats, tempo etc point to it’s setting, tone or mood. Just as you investigate captivating characters, ponder a bit on these lines that offer fleshy sensory details.

Poets research biographies of other good poets.

To understand better the message behind the poems, it would be needful to get a glimpse into the lives of the poets who wrote them. E.g the poem I know why the caged bird sings by maya Angelou is powerful all together when you get to read her story of being molested and what lead to her seeking succour in it.

You’ll also learn about her teacher, Mrs Bertha that played a remarkable role in shaping her writings from her childhood. This is just one amongst many. The biographies, life and environment where the poets reside have a huge role to play.

There are so many reasons why good poems speak to the soul. The language is fluid and the message is clear.

Which song lyrics or poem spoke to you lately?

What new styles of poetry have you tried out?

P.S my favourite poetry anthology of all time is still my secondary school love, West African verses 🤩
